Kennewick, WA- The Tri-City Americans (24-25-2-1, 51 pts) ended a three game home stand on a high note, scoring three goals in the second period en route to a 4-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs (26-21-3-2, 57 pts) in front of 4,217 fans at Toyota Center on Saturday Night.

The game was back and forth in the first period, with both teams recording nine shots in the period. There were some scoring chances, but neither team could find the net in the first.

In the second, Tri-City broke open the scoring, as Tyler Sandhu tapped the puck into the net for a 1-0 lead six minutes into the period. Later in the period, Austyn Playfair snapped a shot from the left faceoff circle top shelf for a 2-0 lead. Sandhu added his second of the game, firing a laser from the slot for a 3-0 advantage after two periods.

Early in the third, Beau McCue cleaned up a loose puck in the slot, firing it high glove side on Spokane goalie Tyson Verhelst to make it 4-0. The shutout attempt for the Americans was thwarted six minutes into the third, as a turnover in the defensive zone led to a goal from Taylor Ross, cutting the lead to 4-1. But that was all the Chiefs were able to register, as the Americans cruised to the victory.

Tri-City has points in seven straight games at home, and has not lost in regulation at home in 2016.

Spokane recorded 32 penalty minutes and didn't score with five power play chances. Tri-City spent 34 minutes in the penalty box and was unsuccessful with four power play opportunities.

Evan Sarthou made 27 saves in the win, while Verhelst stopped 35 shots in the loss.

The Americans will hit the road for four games, starting on Wednesday, Feb. 10, against the Kootenay Ice (9-40-4-0, 22 pts). Game time is at 6 p.m. at Western Financial Place. Tri-City earned the win in last season's meeting, 5-4, in Kennewick. Listen to the game on NewsTalk 870, or watch the game through WHL Live or at Kimo's, your Americans home away from home.
