Everett Silvertips News Release
KENT, Wash. - Carson Stadnyk and Graham Millar each punched in two goals and Remi Laurencelle earned an assist in his return to the lineup, helping the first place Everett Silvertips cruise past the Seattle Thunderbirds in a 4-1 victory before an announced crowd of 5,316 at ShoWare Center on Saturday in WHL action.
The victory extended the Silvertips lead to nine points for first place in the U.S. Division, their largest lead of the season, buoyed by Carter Hart's 23 saves to seize his league-leading 31st win. The Silvertips improved to 5-0-1-0 over their U.S. Division rival, whose only goal came from Brandon Schuldhaus in the third period.
The Silvertips, starting a stretch of five of six games on the road, improved to 16-9-1-1 away from home ice.
Emotions boiled even during warmups between the teams, carrying over from the last meeting which lost Laurencelle to a five-minute checking-from-behind major on Seattle captain Jerret Smith (missing in action due to injury since Jan. 30). Two separate scraps marked the first three minutes of the game, but the Silvertips manufactured a 1-0 lead by working the puck deep into the Seattle zone, halfway into the period.
Cole MacDonald, who earned a pair of assists, fed Stadnyk at the right side, who swung wide of the Seattle net. Stadnyk caught Landon Bow cheating on the wrong post and tucked a wraparound for his 12th goal of the season, with 9:44 left in the period.
Just 4:27 later, Stadnyk buried a rebound from the right circle, after Bow stopped a bid by Remi Laurencelle for his second of the game, and the Tips took a 2-0 lead into their own dressing room.
After Brian King drew a penalty on Seattle's Jared Pelechaty, Millar cashed in with his first goal on the power play for a 3-0 lead at 7:38 of the second period, a rebound slammed past Bow after Noah Juulsen and Matt Fonteyne were able to manufacture a rebound.
Bow was lifted for Logan Flodell, for the second in three head-to-head meetings, after giving up three goals on 12 shots. Seattle got on the board on Schuldhaus' bid that seared through traffic at 2:45 of the third period, and the Tips were threatened again when Seattle managed puck possession for an entire power play beginning with 6:57 left in the period.
After the Tips killed the penalty, they maneuvered the puck back into the Seattle where Millar slammed a one-timer past Flodell, on a post-to-post set-up by Fonteyne for a 4-1 lead with 4:34 remaining.
