Victoria Royals News Release
Portland, OR- The Victoria Royals scored three goals in the third period as they took down the Portland Winterhawks 3-1 on Saturday night for their eighth straight win.
With the victory, the Royals set the new franchise record for most consecutive wins at eight. The previous best was seven, which Victoria set twice from February 7 - 19 of the 2013-14 campaign and January 15- 26 during the 2012-13 season.
The Royals trailed 1-0 in the third period, but broke out with three goals. Victoria rookie Ryan Peckford tallied the game winner midway through the third frame when he fought off a pair of Winterhawks' defencemen and slid the loose puck past netminder Adin Hill. Alex Forsberg scored the first marker for the Royals, while Vladimir Bobylev rounded out the scoring. Portland's lone goal was registered by Cody Glass in the opening period.
Victoria started netminder Griffen Outhouse who stopped 27 of the 28 pucks directed his way. Winterhawks' goaltender Hill made 37 save on 40 shots he faced throughout the contest.
Neither team was able to capitalize on the man-advantage with both teams going 0/40.0%.
The Royals return home for a Family Day match-up on Monday, February 8th against the U.S. Division leading Everett Silvertips.
