Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release
Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Calle Ridderwall scored a pair of power play goals- including the game winner- and the Tri-City Storm defeated the host RoughRiders 5-3 Saturday night.
With time running out on the second period and the Storm on the power play, Ridderwall broke a 2-2 tie by tipping in a Kyle Ensign shot at the 19:59 mark.
Tri-City was again up a man when Ensign scored from the side of the net to make it 4-2 at 13:25 of the third period.
The Riders would battle back late, thanks in part to a pair of Tri-City penalties. Already up 5-on-3, the Riders pulled goaltender Pat McGann (34 saves) to create a rare 6-on-3, an advantage they cashed in when Robin Bergman fired the puck home from the high slot with 55 seconds left in the third period.
Seconds after the ensuing faceoff, however, Tristin Lewellyn launched the puck into the empty Rider net to squash Cedar Rapids comeback hopes.
The Storm had gotten off to a strong start when Patrick White deflected the puck past McGann to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead at 6:22 of the first.
The Riders bounced back to take the lead with a pair of goals later in the first. Cedar Rapids was on the power play when Kevin Wehrs tied the score with a wrister from the slot at 9:09. The Riders took a 2-1 lead at 11:50 when Jacob Cepis darted into the goalmouth and roofed an Evan Stephens feed. The Rider lead lasted only until Michael Pilot drove the puck past McGann from the high slot at 2:39 of the second period.
