Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

First in the USHL Eastern Division. That's where the Watelroo Black Hawks found themselves Saturday night after a 4-0 win against Omaha. In two games at home so far this year Waterloo has posted two 4-0 shutouts. The Hawks have earned at least a point each of the five times they've taken the ice.

The weekend action began in Des Moines Friday. Craig Smith and Sean Murphy scored in the first two periods, but after an early third period score Des Moines was ahead 4-2. Midway through the third, James Marcou brought the Hawks back within one. With 4:44 remaining and at the tail end of a penalty, Josh Turnbull's short-handed goal tied the game. A scoreless overtime led to a shootout which Des Moines won 3-2. The official game final was 5-4 Buccaneers.

On Saturday at Young Arena Waterloo hosted Omaha. Ninety-one seconds before the opening period ended, Turnbull struck for his fourth goal of the season. The Hawks rookie has had a point in each game. The second period belonged to Matt Arhontas. A powerplay score off a rebound was his first of the season. It didn't take long to add a second; less than a minute later and shorthanded Turnbull set up Arhontas again to cap a 2-on-1 break. Murphy added the final goal early in the third. Matt DiGirolamo made 23 saves in the shutout victory, his second win of the season.

A home-and-home series with the Chicago Steel waits on the schedule next weekend. Friday Waterloo travels to Edge Ice Arena for 7:30 tilt with the Steel. The scene shifts to Young Arena Satuday night for a 7pm rematch.
