Tri-City Storm News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - Michael Vecchione scored his 25th goal of the season and Brian Ward extended his point streak to 16 games, but the Tri-City Storm (22-34-7) fell to the Lincoln Stars (38-22-3) by a final score of 5-2 on Friday night at the IceBox.
Storm forward Ben Foster also scored a goal in the third period. The tally was his eighth as a member of the Tri-City squad and his 22nd on the season.
The Stars took the early lead 1:24 into the opening period on an unassisted goal by Vinni Lettieri.
Tri-City responded later in the first frame on a great rush up the ice. Started by goaltender Justin Quale, Trevor Moore found Ward in the attacking zone. Ward then threw the puck toward the net where it was deflected past the goal line by Vecchione.
Lincoln regained the lead just 10 seconds into the middle frame however, as Dominik Shine took advantage of a Storm turnover and beat Quale with a wrist shot to make it 2-1.
Shine's goal was the only tally of the second and the game moved into the final period with Tri-City trailing by one.
Lettieri scored his second of the game to make it 3-1 the 14:19 mark, and the Storm couldn't overcome the lead despite Foster's late goal.
An empty netter from Lettieri gave the Lincoln forward the hat trick and sealed a 5-2 victory for the Stars.
Quale made 31 saves for Tri-City in a losing effort.
The Storm will be back at the Viaero Event Center to close out the season on Saturday night, wrapping up the weekend home-and-home series with the Stars at 7:05 p.m.
