Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

It took seven shootout rounds, but the Waterloo Black Hawks tipped the Indiana Ice 3-2 after bonus hockey at Bankers Life Coliseum in Indianapolis Saturday.

Not only was 3-2 the game's official final, it was also the score in the shootout. Taylor Cammarata converted the first chance and Vince Hinostroza outwaited goalie Anderson Snair in the third round, but Tyler Pham and Mikhail Plotnikov scored on the second and third Indiana chances. Neither team could put the puck across the goal line over their next three opportunities.

Liam Pecararo sent Waterloo ahead for good with a backhander beating Snair to the goaltender's left. Cal Petersen then turned aside Mitch Hults' final attempt, bringing the game to an end. Petersen had made 30 saves earlier during regulation and overtime.

The only goal of the first period came during a power play which began a little more than a minute into the game. On that advantage at 1:50, Mike Huntebinrker tipped an Ian McCoshen shot over the glove of Snair. Waterloo preserved the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the period and through two Ice power plays.

Cammarata added to the margin at 5:25 of the middle period, coming up ice on a rush to wrist a shot over the right shoulder of Snair. However, the Ice converted back-to-back power plays to even the game. Vince Pedrie scored on a shot through traffic from the left point at 6:23, then a faceoff win led to a Plotnikov goal at 12:18.

The Hawks close the regular season Sunday with a rematch against Indiana at Bankers Life Coliseum. Game time is 2:05 Central Time. The Hawks will begin the playoffs next week. With a win Sunday, Waterloo would meet the Fargo Force. A loss would lead to a first-round series against the Sioux Falls Stampede.
