Tri-City Beats First Place Spokane

August 25, 2008 - Northwest League (NWL) - Tri-City Dust Devils News Release

The Spokane Indians came to Gesa Stadium with the best record in the Northwest League, but the Tri-City Dust Devils are the hottest team in the league and for the second night in a row the hottest team won 5-2. Tri-City has now won ten of their last twelve contests and improves to 34-32.

Tri-City got another strong pitching performance from a staff with a league-leading 3.68 ERA. Starter Juan Nicasio threw 4 2/3 strong innings, allowing two runs and striking out six. The Dust Devils bullpen would then shut the door on the Indians for the rest of the night. Winning pitcher Carlos Luna (3-2), Michael Marbry, and Tyler Trice (first save of the year) tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings out of the pen.

Charlie Blackmon extended his hitting streak to 13 games and picked up his 83rd hit of the year with a fourth inning single. Blackmon is only one hit shy of tying the Dust Devils' single season record of 84 hits. Chad Lembeck added a solo home run in the 6th inning and Jordan Pacheco had a strong offensive night, going 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs.

Spokane starter Wilfredo Boscan (8-1) took his first loss of the year after allowing four runs on six hits through 5 2/3 innings.

Despite the second straight loss, Spokane (43-23) holds a five game lead over the Boise Hawks and a nine game lead over Tri-City in the Northwest League Eastern Division.

The series finale is Monday night at Gesa Stadium. Tickets can be purchased at the Dust Devils box office, by phone at 544-8789, online at www.dustdevilsbaseball.com, and at all TicketsWest outlets. Season tickets, mini-plans, and group tickets are also available at the box office and over the phone.
