
Tri-City Battles Sioux Falls in Final Game of Weekend

Sioux Falls, SD. - The Tri-City Storm returns to action tonight at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, SD in another matchup against the Sioux Fall Stampede. Last night, the Storm defeated the Stampede by a final score of 5-4 in overtime. The thrilling matchup saw each team trade 3rd period goals before Cole McWard won the game for the Storm with less than four seconds to play in overtime. The victory was Tri-City's fourth consecutive of the season. Tonight's game is the second and final game of the weekend for the Storm. Puck drop is set for 7:05pm.
Tri-City (15-8-0-1) is the only team in the USHL to win eight of its last ten games following last night's 5-4 overtime victory over Sioux Falls. In addition to Cole McWard's overtime game-winning goal, Cole O'Hara, Isac Jonsson, Caden Villegas, and Mark Estapa also netted goals for Tri-City in the win. Connor Hopkins improved to 4-2-0-0 on the season in net for the Storm after making 18 saves on the Stampede's 22 shots on goal. Jonsson's goal was the first of his USHL career. Last night's game was the opening game of the eight-game season series between the Storm and the Stampede. Tri-City improved to 10-1-0-0 when leading after the 1st period and 13-0-0-0 when leading after the 2nd period this season after last night's game. Following tonight's road game against Sioux Falls, Tri-City returns to action next weekend for three road games against Des Moines and Waterloo.
Sioux Falls (11-12-3-0) dropped its third overtime game of the season in last night's home loss to Tri-City. The Stampede dropped an overtime decision to Fargo by a final score of 3-2 on December 12th and also lost an overtime game last weekend to Sioux City by a final score of 3-2. After falling behind by three goals in last night's 2nd period, Sioux Falls answered with three consecutive goals to tie the game in the 3rd period. After falling behind again in the 3rd period, the Stampede's Blake Humphrey tied the game again to force overtime. After playing six consecutive road games prior to last night's battle against the Storm, Sioux Falls has not won a game on home ice since the Stampede defeated the Sioux City Musketeers by a final score of 3-2 in overtime on January 14th.
