Storm Defeat Stampede in Overtime 5-4

Tri-City Storm News Release


Sioux Falls, SD. - The Tri-City Storm defeated the Sioux Falls Stampede 5-4 in overtime Friday night at the Denny Sanford Premier Center. Cole McWard scored the game-winning goal with less than four seconds left in overtime to give the Storm the win. Cole O'Hara, Isac Jonsson, Caden Villegas, and Mark Estapa also scored for Tri-City. Connor Hopkins made 18 saves on 22 shots to record the win in net for the Storm. Tri-City has now won four consecutive games and returns to action tomorrow in another road game against the Stampede. Puck drop is set for 7:05pm.

Cole O'Hara scored his sixth goal of the season at 17:59 of the 1st period to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Kieran Cebrian. Shortly after, Isac Jonsson scored a power-play goal to put the Storm in front by two. Jonsson's goal was scored at 19:27 of the 1st period and was assisted by Adam Klapka and Caden Villegas. The goal was Jonsson's first career goal in the USHL. Tri-City outshot Sioux Falls 10-5 in the 1st period and carried a 2-0 lead into the 2nd period.

Caden Villegas scored his fourth goal of the year at 2:19 of the 2nd period to give Tri-City a 3-0 lead. Following the Storm's third goal of the game, Sioux Falls answered back with three consecutive goals to tie the game at 3-3. Brandon Chabrier scored at 9:01 of the 2nd period and Will Dineen scored at 11:08 of the 2nd period to bring Sioux Falls within one goal of the Storm's lead. Tri-City outshot Sioux Falls 10-9 in the 2nd period and carried a one goal lead into the 3rd period.

Michael Citara scored at 3:28 of the 3rd period to tie the game at 3-3. At 9:52 of the 3rd period, Mark Estapa netted his seventh goal of the season to give Tri-City a 4-3 lead. Estapa's goal was assisted by Hunter Strand. At 14:56 of the 3rd period, Blake Humphrey scored to tie the game at 4-4. Tri-City outshot Sioux Falls 11-7 in the 3rd period.

At 4:56 of overtime, Cole McWard scored his seventh goal of the year to give the Storm the win. The goal was assisted by Carter Mazur. Tri-City improved to 15-8-0-1 on the season in the victory.
