Fargo Force News Release
Goals from Kyle Smolen and Tristan Broz as well as 25 saves from Brennan Boynton in the net helped lead Fargo to a 2-1 victory and a sweep of the weekend series tonight in Waterloo.
The Force kicked off the scoring in the contest 10:35 into the first period. Right after a finished Fargo power play the Force used their momentum to spark a rush down the ice. Fargo D-man Ryan Siedem connected with Tyler Rollwagen who managed to push the puck forward just enough for Kyle Smolen to make solid contact and lift the puck over Waterloo's netminder and into the back of the net. Period one ended with a 1-0 Fargo lead, Force outshot their opponents as well, 12-10.
It wasn't long before Waterloo tied things up in the second period. Just :57 seconds in Michael LaStarza worked his way around the backside of the Force net and fired in a wraparound goal, tying up the score at 1-1.
With 6:47 remaining in the 2nd period Tristan Broz scored from in close on a rebound off a shot from Trevor Griebel, giving Fargo a 2-1 lead. This goal stood up to be the game winner & it was Broz's 3rd game winner in the last three games.
Period three was scoreless thanks to some big stops from both goalies and a solid defensive performance on both sides of the ice.
After a sweep of the weekend in Waterloo the Fargo Force improve to 18-9-2 and remain on top of the Western Conference. The Force return to Fargo for three games on home ice next weekend. The first on Thursday, February 11th, a make-up game vs. the Lincoln Stars. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM.
