Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ) Tomorrow, the Trenton Thunder, the Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, will begin participation in a collection of community events called HOPE Week (Helping Others Preserve & Excel). HOPE Week is a New York Yankees initiative designed to reach out to remarkable people who are worthy of recognition for their inspiring actions and support of their communities.

The following are the honorees and/or outreach events of Trenton Thunder HOPE Week. Each will consist of the Thunder players, mascot and staff visiting a location as well as a presentation prior to that night's game:

June 19th: Julie Smith, Langtree Elementary teacher and founder of Hearts for the Homeless.

June 20th: Thunder players will visit the RWJ Hamilton's Lakeview Childcare Center and Maternity Ward as well as Capital Health's Hopewell Campus Pediatric Unit.

June 21st: Fred Vereen, Executive Director of Every Child Valued of Lawrenceville

June 22nd: Norm Smith and Tim Doherty of Project Freedom

June 25th: Thunder players will host a baseball clinic at Waterfront Park for Special Olympians from New Jersey.

The New York Yankees began HOPE Week in 2009 in an attempt to inspire people to follow the actions of a few great individuals who have proved how much they care for their own communities by giving back and helping as much as they could. The Yankees want to emphasize that everyone can give back, no matter what financial situation in which someone might be.

This is the first season that all five of the New York Yankees Minor League teams are participating in an attempt to reach out to as many people as possible and to show that anyone can help. The teams include; the Staten Island Yankees, Charleston RiverDogs, Tampa Yankees, and the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre Yankees. Players, managers, coaches, and front-office staff will attend these events to show their support, and all fans of each team are encouraged to join in and give their support as well.

All Trenton Thunder tickets are on sale now at trentonthunder.com.
