Arkansas Travelers News Release
The Arkansas Travelers finished their first July homestand with just one win in six games, taking one of three games from the Midland RockHounds and then getting swept by the Frisco RoughRiders.
The Travs (3-9, 31-51) have had a tough time against both South Division foes, with a 3-6 record against Midland this year and 2-7 mark against Frisco. Arkansas will play at Midland tonight and then play three games at Frisco beginning Sunday, wrapping up the regular season series with each team.
After winning two of three to open the second half of the season in late-June, the Travelers have lost eight of their last nine games. Arkansas has had a tough start to July, batting .235 as a team with a staff ERA of 6.33 in six games.
A pair of individual streaks came to an end during the final game of the homestand, first when Mark Trumbo's bid for a double-digit game hit streak came up short when he batted 0-for-3 and was pinch-hit for in his final at-bat. Trumbo had the only hit, a double, in the Travs' 10-0 loss in the second game of a Monday doubleheader. Peter Bourjos had reached base safely in a Texas League-best 36 straight games, a streak that started May 7, before he went 0-for-3 and was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the same game as Trumbo.
Trevor Reckling (4-2, 2.49 ERA) will make the start tonight against Midland's Michael Madsen (0-0, 2.08). Reckling pitched 5.1 innings against the RockHounds on July 3, pitching around eight hits and four walks to allow just one earned run, but drawing a no-decision when Midland rallied on the Arkansas bullpen.
Tonight will be Reckling's last start before he goes to St. Louis for Major League Baseball's 11th annual Futures Game on All-Star Sunday. The 20-year-old Reckling was named to the Futures All-Star team to represent the Los Angeles Angels organization. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
The Travelers return to Dickey-Stephens Park next Thursday, July 16, where they will play a quick four games against the Tulsa Drillers. Arkansas will play four games at Northwest Arkansas after that, then play another seven in North Little Rock against Tulsa and Springfield.
