The RoughRiders continued their offensive onslaught, defeating the Cardinals 8-4 Thursday night to win their fifth straight contest, matching their season-best win streak. Frisco starter Blake Beavan (1-2) earned his first victory at the Double-A level, allowing four runs over five innings. Frisco's Adam Fox collected two solo, lead-off home runs for his first multi-homer game since May 1, 2005.
The RoughRiders jumped on top early with three runs in the first frame when Tim Smith hit an RBI double to score Craig Gentry followed by a two-run single by Mitch Moreland. Frisco made it 4-0 in the second inning when Fox belted his sixth home run of the season. Springfield chipped away at the Frisco lead with a run in the third and fourth innings, followed by two more in the fifth frame to tie the game at four. The RoughRiders answered in the bottom of the fifth frame when Manny Pina hit an RBI double, followed by a Marcus Lemon RBI single, and an RBI double by Gentry. Fox pushed the Frisco lead to 8-4 with a solo home run in the seventh inning followed by a Chad Tracy two-run home run in the eighth frame to give the RoughRiders the 10-4 advantage.
Beavan allowed four runs on eight hits over five frames, not recording a strikeout in a start for the first time since 2008. Springfield starter Ryan Kulik (3-6) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings.
Fox led the Frisco offense with a game-best three hits, including two homers. Each player in Frisco's starting line-up collected a hit and Moreland extended his RBI streak to 11 consecutive games.
The RoughRiders will go for a season-best sixth straight win on Friday night in game two against the Cardinals. First pitch from Dr Pepper Ballpark is at 7 pm as the game will also be broadcast on TXA 21.
