Travs Shutout, 6-0, For Third Straight Loss

Drillers Stadium, Tulsa, OK - Tulsa LHP Jeff Francis struck out 11 batters over 6.2 shutout innings leading the Drillers (4-2) to a 6-0 victory over the Arkansas Travelers (4-3). Francis struck out the side twice and at one point retired 14 consecutive Arkansas hitters. In dropping their third straight game, the Travs struck out times and were held to three base hits. Tulsa SS Danny Sandoval went 3-4 with a two-run homer (1) and two runs scored. 2B Jayson Nix belted a three run homer (2) off losing pitcher RHP Rich Fischer (1-1). Fischer was touched for six earned runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings.

Fischer got into trouble early by allowing a leadoff triple to Tony Miller to start the first inning. Sandoval followed with a home run to right field for a 2-0 Drillers lead.

After Fischer held the Drillers without a run for the next two innings, DH Shawn Garrett began the bottom of the fourth by bunting for a single. Garrett moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt and scored when 3B Corey Slavik ripped a triple to right-center field for a 3-0 lead.

Miller started the bottom of the fifth inning by drawing a walk from Fischer. Sandoval followed with a single and Nix followed with a three-run shot to left-center field for a 6-0 lead.

Francis retired the first five Travs batters before walking Nick Gorneault with two outs in the second inning. The Travs' first base hit came off the bat of Javy Rodriguez, a triple in the third. Francis followed by striking out Carlos Duncan, Alberto Callaspo and Tommy Murphy to end the inning. Francis struck out the side in the fifth inning as well.

The game was played in 2:07 and the paid attendance was 2,788.

Arkansas battles Tulsa Thursday night at Drillers Stadium in the second game of a four-game series. The Travs have LHP Tim Bittner (1-0) scheduled to pitch against RHP Travis Anderson. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
