Round Rock Express News Release
For the third time this year, the Round Rock Express took all the drama out of a game early.
The Express scored six times in the first inning to get their third rout in five games started, a 9-0 shutout of the Midland RockHounds.
This is after wins over El Paso of 13-2 and 9-2 earlier this week.
3,212 at First American Bank Ballpark saw Round Rock chase starter Shane Komine early. David Matranga, the third man up, drove in two with a double to get the scoring started. Charlton Jimerson and Hector Gimenez singled in runs before Mike Rodriguez doubled home the final run of the inning. Komine (0-1) ended up allowing all six runs, in only one-third of an inning.
The Express (5-2) added to that with three runs in the third. Mike Rodriguez again had a big double, driving in two.
That was more than enough for Wandy Rodriguez (1-1). After an inconsistent first start, the 24-year old pitcher threw five shutout innings, giving up four hits while striking out six.
Tim McClaskey worked the final four innings to secure the first Round Rock shutout of the season.
Midland falls to 3-3, 1.5 games behind the first place Express.
The second game of the four game series is Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
