Round Rock Express News Release

The Round Rock Express bats have been front and center during the season opening road trip. Thursday night in Midland, though, they were quieted.

Not that it mattered.

The Express got a second solid start from Ezequiel Astacio and Jesse Carltson and Santiago Ramirez kept the Midland RockHounds at bay late in a 4-2 win to extend their winning streak to six games.

In the first inning, the Round Rock bats looked like the team that has averaged 8.8 runs in the last five games. Aided by a pair of costly errors, the Express struck for three runs when Tommy Whiteman singled in two and Charlton Jimerson drove in one.

That ended up being all Astacio (2-0) would need. He went five innings and allowed the two runs. He also struck out five and is now averaging 1.27 strikeouts an inning.

Midland (3-4) got back in the game by getting to Astacio for a pair of runs in the fifth when Freddie Bynum and Brian Sellier got RBI base hits.

From there, the nearly perfect Express bullpen took over. Jesse Carlson threw two perfect innings and Ramirez worked the eighth and ninth for his second save, striking out Bynum with two on to end the game.

The Round Rock bullpen is now sporting a 0.39 ERA in the last seven games.

Brad Weis (0-1) took the loss after being betrayed by his defense in the first.

The Express improve to 6-2 and will face Midland again Friday at 6:30 p.m.
