Travs Scorch Missions 9-2

Wolff Stadium, San Antonio, TX - The Travs played one of their best games of the season on Monday afternoon getting outstanding pitching and 14 base hits in a 9-2 victory over the San Antonio Missions. SS Hainley Statia led the way with four base hits including a triple, three RBI and three runs scored. 1B Mike Collins drove in four runs on two doubles and a single, while OF Drew Toussaint had three base hits and three runs scored. RHP Dan Denham (4-4) tossed eight strong innings allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

The Missions grabbed the early lead against Denham in the first inning. Drew Macias hit a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Chad Huffman hit a sacrifice fly.

Missions starter RHP Mike Ekstrom (2-4) left the bases loaded in the first inning then retired the first two batters of the second inning before Toussaint hit a double. Adam Greenberg drew a walk, and both runner scored when Statia ripped a triple over the right fielder's head. Collins followed with a double to right field to chase Statia in for a 3-1 Travs lead.

Toussaint led off the fourth with a triple into right-center. A one-out single by Statia to center scored Toussaint, then Collins scorched a double to right-center to score Statia for a 5-1 lead.

San Antonio RHP Manny Ayala replaced Ekstrom after Collins's RBI double and retired six batters in a row before walking Greenberg and Statia in the sixth. Collins lined a single over second base to knock in Greenberg for a 6-1 lead.

Denham retired ten batters in a row until allowing two singles in the seventh to put runners at second and third with no outs. But Denham recovered getting a pop out, a strikeout and a fly ball to leave the runners on base.

The Travs answered with three runs in the eighth inning against RHP Wilton Lopez. Toussaint began the inning with a single to left and advanced to third when Statia found a gap through the right side of the infield. Mike Collins bounced out to third base to score Toussaint, then Ben Johnson hit a bloop single to left field to score Statia. A booming double to left-center by Corey Smith scored Johnson for a 9-1 lead.

Denham allowed a run in the eighth inning before giving way to RHP Steve Marek for the ninth.

NOTES: The Travs finish 4-2 on the road trip for their first winning trip of the season...Statia's four hits are a season-high...Mike Collins drove in ten runs on the road trip...
