Arkansas Travelers News Release
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Thursday night's paid attendance of 4959 at Dickey-Stephens Park was treated to six innings of free baseball as the Corpus Christi Hooks broke a 1-all tie in the 15th inning with four runs in the frame to go ahead 5-1. A run in the bottom of the inning by the Arkansas Travelers would make the final score 5-2.
The lengthy 4:27 game saw both teams score a run within the first two innings, but then get shutdown by opposing pitchers. The Travs (21-31) got on the board first in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Mount that scored Renny Osuna. Osuna reached first base on a single, stole second base, and advanced to third base on an error by the Hooks' (25-27) second baseman Jose Martinez to set up the RBI opportunity for Mount.
A leadoff homerun by Chris Wallace off of A.J. Schugel in the top of the second inning knotted the game at 1-all. The homerun would be the lone blemish on Schugel's afternoon as the right-hander retired 17 of the final 19 batters he faced in his seven innings of work. Schugel's final line would include a season-high eight strikeouts, two hits allowed, two walks, and one earned run.
Hooks' starter Jose Cisnero matched Schugel's effort with seven innings of work himself. Cisnero would strikeout seven Travs, scatter five hits, walk one, and give up one unearned run.
As good as the starting pitching was for both teams, their relievers were just as good with each of the bullpens tossing six shutout innings leading into the 15th inning.
After being limited to just five hits through 14 innings, the Hooks' offense doubled their hit total in the 15th, scoring four runs on the strength of three singles and a pair of doubles.
Now trailing 5-1, the Travs would receive a lift as Jean Segura laced a one-out triple into the right field corner. Segura would then score on a single by Osuna to make the score 5-2. Rian Kinary, who entered the game in the eighth inning, would ground into a game-ending 6-3 double play.
The Travs will look to avoid the sweep as they will play the third and final game of the series on Friday, June 1st. First pitch is set for 7:10 pm. Gates open at 6:10 pm.
