North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers won their third straight game with a 9-4 victory over the Springfield Cardinals on Thursday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.

LF Bo Way finished 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs scored, two RBIs and was hit by a pitch. Way is the second Travs player with a four-hit game (Brandon Bayardi) this season, and second to reach base five times in one game (Sherman Johnson).

Four a fourth game in a row, the Travs scored first. On Thursday, they plated two in the second thanks to two separate bases loaded hit-by pitches by Cardinals starter RHP Daniel Poncedeleon (L, 1-1). Poncedeleon was removed from the game in the second inning after working 14.1 combined innings in his first two starts and allowing just one total earned run.

A DH Chris Jacobs solo home run off Arkansas starter RHP Jordan Kipper (W, 1-1) in the third cut the Travs lead in half, but Arkansas added a run in the fourth and two more runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.

With two outs and nobody on in the sixth, four straight Cardinals reached base, capped by a two-run 3B Paul DeJong triple to make it a 5-4 game, but the Travs immediately countered with three of their own in the sixth, two of them coming thanks to a 1B Eric Aguilera home run, his third of the season.

Aguilera finished 2-for-4 with the home run, three runs scored and two RBIs.

3B Cal Towey tripled for a second consecutive game and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk.

The Travs stole a season-high five bases. They had six total stolen bases over the first 12 games.

Kipper surrendered the four runs over 5.2 innings and allowed six hits with two walks and a season-high six strikeouts.

RHP Austin Adams (1 IP), LHP Edward Paredes (0.2 IP) and RHP D.J. Johnson (1.2 IP) pitched scoreless relief behind Kipper.

With the win, Arkansas improved to 6-7 on the season and moved to just one game behind the Cardinals for first place in the Texas League North division.

The two teams will play game two of the four-game series on Friday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
