Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

CRESTWOOD, IL - After scoring 26 runs in the first two games of their series, the Traverse City Beach Bums offensive well ran dry on Friday with a 3-0 setback against the Windy City ThunderBolts.

Windy City scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning when Ryan Cuneo singled home Chad Cregar, who had doubled to lead off the inning. In the sixth, the ThunderBolts got the final two runs of the game when Zach Aakhus singled home Cregar. Later in the inning, a bases loaded walk to Jareck West forced home Bob Glover who doubled earlier in the inning.

The pitching was the main story in the game, however. For the Beach Bums, starter Bennett Whitmore pitched well, allowing three runs in 5.2 innings. The Traverse City bullpen combo of Nick Capito and Scott Mueller did not allow a run over 2.1 frames. Unfortunately for TC, Tyson Corley was just a bit better for Windy City, going the distance in getting the shutout victory for the ThunderBolts.

Traverse City comes home on Sunday for a doubleheader against the Frontier League's newest addition, the Road Warriors, starting at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for the doubleheader are just $5.

The Beach Bums Family Carnival and Michigan National Guard Community Appreciation day comes up on Saturday, July 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a baseball clinic for kids ages 6-14 hosted by former Major League player and coach Dan Rohn (limited to the first 60 kids who register on the day of the event). A silent auction will take place with items including a team signed bat, jersey, helmet and an opportunity to take batting practice with the team. The Michigan National Guard will bring a rock climbing wall and an inflatable jousting ring. Tickets for the event are just $5. Call 943-0100 for more information.
