Joliet Slammers News Release
(Schaumburg, IL)- The Schaumburg Boomers hammered Slammers pitching Friday in a 7-1 win over Joliet, and in the process, swept the Slammers. The Boomers topped Joliet 1-0 on Wednesday, 2-0 on Thursday, and 7-1 on Friday. Before Joliet scored, it marked 29 straight innings this season where Schaumburg had held Joliet's lineup scoreless.
After a scoreless two and a half innings, Schaumburg blew the game open in the third. Jereme Milons, Karexon Sanchez and Nate Baumann all notched RBIs. The Boomers kept rolling in the fifth on a solo shot by Steve McQuail to take the six run lead, and Sanchez tagged a run-scoring single in the sixth for a seven-run advantage.
Joliet scored for the first time in the series in the top of the ninth inning when Kyle Maunus laced an RBI single to give the game its 7-1 final score.
Matt Sommo made his debut with Joliet in the starting role, throwing five innings on six runs, and was stuck with the loss. Dustin Quattrocchi, Chase Doremus, and Geoff Brown piggybacked in relief. Cody Griebling notched the win in an impressive complete-game.
The Slammers return home to Silver Cross Field Saturday evening for a three-game homestand with the rival Windy City ThunderBolts. It's J.L. Bird Bobblehead Night at the yard, and the first 1000 fans in the gates receive the collectable. Fans can listen to the game on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
