Lake Erie Crushers News Release
The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, fell to the Traverse City Beach Bums, 2-1 as the Crushers are held scoreless after the second inning while Beach Bums' starter, Kramer Champlin (5-6) threw a complete game.
The Crushers (44-46) win this series with Traverse City, but the loss ends their winning streak at five games. They finish with a 21-27 record on the road. The Beach Bums (38-50) win the season series with the Crushers, 7-5.
Both teams scored a run in the second inning. In the top of the inning, the Crushers' Eric Grabe and Sean Hurley both singled. With runners on first and second, Parker Norris singled into center field, scoring Grabe. In the bottom of the inning, Traverse City tied the game at one. Elijah Trail walked and moved to second on a single by Christian Santisteban. Gaby Juarbe singled into left field, just under Grabe's glove at short, scoring Trail.
The Beach Bums scored, what turned out to be, the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two outs, Steven Patterson and Trail hit back-to-back singles. Santisteban then hit an RBI single into right field.
Lake Erie had bases loaded with two outs in the seventh inning, but Champlin was able to strike out Robb Paller, ending the inning.
The Crushers' starting pitcher, Steve Hagen (6-6) went seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and picked up the loss. Jordan McCoy pitched the eighth inning, walking one and striking out two batters.
Traverse City starter, Champlin was given the win as he pitched his fourth complete game of the season. He allowed a run on six hits while striking out 10 Crushers.
Grabe singled for Lake Erie, tonight, and now has a seven game hit streak and has reached base safely in his last nine games. De La Rosa has reached base in 13 straight games. Oliver went 0-4 with three strikeouts, ending his on-base streak at 22 straight games and Barraza went 0-4, snapping his nine game hit streak.
The Crushers have Monday off and will come home to start a three game series with the Joliet Slammers at All Pro Freight Stadium on Tuesday night. Both starting pitchers will be announced later. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
