
Champlin Gives 'Complete' Effort in Weekend Finale

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
The Traverse City Beach Bums(38-50) and the Lake Erie Crushers(44-46) locked up in a classic pitchers' duel with the Bums coming out on top, 2-1, to salvage the final game of the weekend's series.
With one out in the second inning, Eric Grabe of the Crushers picked up a single to left. Sean Hurley followed with his own single, then Parker Norris slipped a single up the middle to score Grabe, and give Lake Erie the lead. The Bums responded in the bottom of the inning with their own one out rally. Elijah Trail was walked then moved to second on a Christian Santisteban single. Gaby Juarbe tied the game when he snuck an RBI single into left field, scoring Trail to tie the game. The Beach Bums took the lead in the sixth, this time, with a two out rally. Steven Patterson started it with a single to right. Trail moved him to second with a single, then Santisteban hit a hard base-hit to right to score Patterson.
Both starters were very good in this evening's game. Kramer Champlin went all nine innings for the complete game win, improving to 5-6, on his fourth complete game of the season. At one point, he retired 16 of 17 hitters. He gave up just one run, spreading out six hits and walking two, while striking out ten. Lake Erie's Steve Hagen went seven innings of solid pitching, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks, and fanned seven. During one stretch, he retired eight in a row. He falls to 6-6 on the season.
With today's win, the Bums take the season series against Lake Erie, 7 games to 5. After taking tomorrow off, the Beach Bums start their final home series of the season, on Tuesday, with game one against the Schaumburg Boomers. Gunnar Kines will start for Schaumburg against the Beach Bums' Augie Gallardo. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the call starting at 6:45pm with the Miller Lite pre-game show on 101.9- The Bay.
Don't Forget- Coming up on Tuesday, it's Back to School Night! The first 250 kids will receive a poster signed by Suntan and Sunburn. Also, it's Two for Tuesday, with buy-one, get-one free tickets. Gates open at 5pm and first pitch against the Schaumburg Boomers will be at 7:05pm
The Beach Bums Box Office & Gift Shop are now open with non-gameday hours of 10am to 6pm Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm on Saturday. Wuerfel Park is closed on non-gameday Sundays. Stadium hours are extended on gamedays.
