Trashers pick up third straight win

November 26, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Danbury Trashers News Release

A rowdy third period ended what began as a goaltending duel between the Danbury Trashers and Richmond RiverDogs. The Trashers came out 4-2 winners at home and notched their first three-game win streak in the team's brief history before a crowd of 2,737 at the Danbury Ice Arena on Saturday night.

Three Trashers, Doug Christiansen, Brent Gretzky and Bruce Richardson, all posted two-point nights and Danbury goaltender Scott Stirling turned aside 33-of-35 shots.

Richmond's Ryan Prentice opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Mark Langdon and Luch Nasato. Danbury's Christiansen tied things up in the second on a goal assisted by Richardson.

JJ Wrobel gave the RiverDogs the lead back :44 seconds into the final frame, but the Trashers scored three unanswered goals in the next eight minutes. Gretzky, Blake Bellefeuille and Brad Wingfield netted the goals, and new Trasher Jeff Daw earned his first point as a member of Danbury's team.

The final half of the period saw two fights, a pair of matching roughing minors, and another pair of double-roughing minors.

With the win, the Trashers take sole possession of the top of the Eastern Division.

Prior to the game the Trashers announced that forward John Morlang was signed to a 14-day PTO by the Bridgeport SoundTigers, as he became the first Trasher to suit up in a regular season AHL game.

The Trashers look to continue their win streak Saturday night against the Flint Generals at 7:00pm. Tickets are available at DanburyTrashers.com or in person at the Danbury Ice Arena starting Saturday morning at 9:00am.
