Rockford extends unbeaten streak to a record 10 straight

November 26, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Records continue to fall for the Rockford IceHogs, the latest, a 10-game unbeaten streak. Goaltender Michel Robinson picked up Rockford's first shutout since March 28, 2003, and the IceHogs topped the Missouri River Otters 1-0 in front of 5,505 at the Rockford MetroCentre Friday night.

The only goal of the contest came on the power play when defenseman Cory Laylin blasted home his second goal of the season at 3:24 of the first period, beating Otters goalie Jason Tapp. The IceHogs capitalized on their second power play opportunity, in a game in which they had eight chances on the man-advantage.

Tapp provided the spectacular goaltending during the first half of the game, making several acrobatic saves, preserving the 1-0 deficit. But Robinson was just as good for Rockford, facing 28 shots in the final two periods, stopping all of them. The shutout was Robinson ‚¬â„¢s first of his young professional career.

Overall, Robinson had 35 saves, while Tapp turned away 26 in the loss. Missouri's power play was powerless, going 0-for-6. IceHogs center J.C. Ruid came back from the Injured Reserve and chipped in an assist with J.F. Dufour on the games only goal.

Next Home Game: Wednesday, December 1 vs. Fort Wayne Komets. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs look to continue their winning ways against the Komets. Come and Pig Out with the IceHogs and WXRX, 104.9 FM. Pick up a pulled pork sandwich and a beer for only $5.
