Danbury Trashers News Release

DANBURY, CT--Utilizing two shorthanded goals and a penalty shot goal in the opening period, the Danbury Trashers erupted to a 3-0 first period lead and eventually took a 5-0 advantage before disposing of Adirondack 8-2 on Sunday night before 2,370 at the Danbury Ice Arena.

A hard fought first period finally opened up as Alex Goupil netted his 25th of the season at the 12:07 mark. Goupil's shorthanded goal was the first of two that the Trashers had in the opening period. Danbury followed up their initial goal as Jamie Thompson was awarded a penalty shot at 13:35 after he was hooked on a clear breakaway. He took his shot and roofed it past Kris Tebbs to give the Trashers a 2-0 lead.

Danbury added another shorthanded goal, their 4th in two games as Jeff Daw found David Hymovitz for his 32nd of the season at the 18:24 mark. Hymovitz finished with four points in the game as he assisted on three other goals.

Fred Belanger returned from the IR prior to the game and scored his 6th of the season from Daw and Hymovitz at the 1:05 mark of the second, while Shawn Collymore scored the first of two goals at the 3:45 mark. Adirondack finally scored as Greg Koehler netted his 19th at the 5:47 mark. Danbury returned the favor as Drew Omicioli netted a one-timer off a pass from his brother Mike at 16:27 for his 46th of the season.

Adirondack scored a power play goal in the final period as Mark Hurtubise scored at the 13:28 mark. The Trashers scored two late period goals from Jeff Daw, who finished with three points and Collymore's second at 18:31 and 18:56 of the final period. Both 3rd period goals were allowed by Mike Boudreau, who replaced Tebbs after the second period.

Sly Daigle stopped 31 of 33 shots while Tebbs and Boudreau combined to save 14 of 22 shots in the loss. Danbury's magic number to clinch the UHL East Division Title is now at one.

Prior to the game, Section 102 presented Danbury forward JM Daoust with their second annual "Impact Player" award. Last year's winner was Bruce Richardson.

The Trashers will finish the regular season with games in Roanoke next Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm.
