Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks will begin the team's inaugural training camp on Monday, October 5 at the Independence Events Center's community ice rink. Head Coach Scott Hillman has invited 27 players to camp who will be fighting for 19 spots on the final roster.
The Mavericks will practice all week at the community rink at Independence Events Center. Due to the construction of the events center, practices will not be open to the public.
"We are excited to finally hit the ice," said President and General Manager Brent Thiessen. "This has been a long time coming and it's great to finally get the team together."
The team will host an intrasquad game on Wednesday, October 7 at 7:05 p.m. at Pepsi Ice Midwest in Overland Park. The Mavericks will then head to Wichita for two pre-season games against the Wichita Thunder at the Wichita Ice Center on October 9 and 10. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. for both contests.
"This is an incredibly exciting time," said Hillman. "All the hard work that the City of Independence, key members of the community from throughout Eastern Jackson County, the Mavericks ownership and front office have done is about to be put into action. We believe we have selected 27 great hockey players and they are going to make my decisions very difficult. I believe that each and every one of them can play in the CHL and we can only keep 19."
Following the pre-season games in Wichita, Hillman will cut the roster down to 19 players and the Mavericks will continue to practice October 12-14 at the community rink. The team will then head to Rapid City, South Dakota for the first game in franchise history on October 16 at 7:05 p.m.
Opening weekend at the Independence Events Center is November 13 and 14. Season tickets, group tickets and mini-plans are available by calling the Mavericks front office at (816) 252-7825. For more information, please visit www.MissouriMavericks.com.
