Rockford Aviators News Release

Loves Park, ILLINOIS-The Rockford Aviators defeated the Florence Freedom in the final game of their 3-game homestand Thursday, getting a huge solo homerun from Elijah Trail to emerge with a 1-0 victory. The win was the 25th of the year for the Aviators.

Payton Baskette took the mound for the home team and racked up 6 strikeouts over 5 scoreless innings to pace the home squad. He was opposed by Jeremy Gooding, who kept the Aviators off the board until Trail teed off to lead off the 7th. It was the 4th homerun of the year for Trail, who returned from the Injured Reserve list earlier this series after missing a month with a broken cheekbone.

Eric Cendejas, who shut down the Freedom in the 6th and 7th, got the win. Matt Frahm held the Florence squad off the board in the eighth after inheriting a difficult two-on, no-out situation, and Colby Holmes was able to earn his 3rd save of the season by putting away the Freedom in the 9th.

The Aviators now stand at 25-13 on the season as they head to Traverse City to take on the Beach Bums in a battle of division winners over the 4th of July Weekend. Tony Rizzotti is expected to start Game 1 of the series for Rockford.
