Trahern keeps streaking

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Dallas Trahern extended his streak of consecutive scoreless innings pitched to 17.1 with seven shutout innings in an 8-0 Whitecaps win over Burlington. The victory ended an 11 game winning streak for the Bees, who continue to the lead the Midwest League West Division's second half race. West Michigan has reclaimed sole possession of first place in the East by a half game thanks to rain outs involving South Bend and Southwest Michigan. Trahern has not allowed a run since the fifth inning of a Whitecaps win over Dayton on July 14. He has not given up an earned run in 20.1 innings, going back the second inning of the contest against the Dragons. The streak includes nine-shutout innings in a 1-0, 11 inning loss at South Bend July 19. Trahern recorded only one strikeout Tuesday but induced 13 ground ball outs, including a pair of double play balls. The right hander allowed three hits and walked four.

Nick McIntyre went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and was hit by two pitches. His RBI single in the first put the 'Caps in front, 1-0. Jeff Frazier went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in as West Michigan scored twice in each of its final three offensive innings. Anthony Tomey and P. J. Finigan each threw an inning of relief to finish off the shutout, which was the first for the Whitecaps since a 2-0 win over Clinton on July 1. The last Burlington loss was July 13 at Peoria. During the streak, the Bees climbed from four games under .500 to seven games above even.
