Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- The Kane County Cougars drew five walks and hit three home runs to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 8-3 on Tuesday night in front of the largest crowd of the season at Fox Cities Stadium. Four of the runners who reached on walks scored in the game for Kane County. Luis Perez, Javier Herrera, and Myron Leslie all homered for the Cougars.
Perez put the Cougars (47-53 overall, 16-15 second half) in front with a one out solo home run in the top of the first inning.
Rattler starter Aaron Jensen walked a pair of Cougars in the top of the third inning and it wound up costing him. Herrera hit a three run homer with two outs to make the score 4-0.
Leslie added a solo home run in the top of the fourth for a 5-0 Cougar lead.
The Rattlers (54-47, 15-16) cut into the Kane County lead in the bottom of the fifth by taking advantage of some wildness by Cougar starting pitcher Joe Scott. Oswaldo Navarro and Jack Arroyo drew back-to-back walks to start the inning. They pulled a double steal and both runners got into scoring position. Brent Johnson drove both Navarro and Arroyo home with a single to center. Later in the inning, Mike Wilson knocked in Johnson with an infield groundout.
Kane County quieted the crowd of 5,778 with a run in the top of the seventh. Rattler reliever Jon Lockwood entered the game with Ryan Ruiz on second and two outs. Jensen had walked Ruiz for the third time in the game earlier in the seventh. Lockwood threw a wild pitch with Herrera at the plate and Ruiz took third. Later in the Herrera at bat, Lockwood threw another wild pitch and Ruiz scored.
Kane County added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning. Cliff Pennington doubled in a run to make the score 7-3. Pennington stole third and scored on an error to put the Cougars up 8-3.
The Rattlers and Cougars are playing two seven inning games on Wednesday. The Rattlers will send Randy Frye (2-4, 8.10ERA) to the hill in game one with Cibney Bello (2-2, 4.82ERA) scheduled to be the starting pitcher in game two. Kane County will counter with Trent Peterson (1-2, 5.16ERA) in game one and Jared Trout (3-4, 4.91ERA) in the nightcap. Game one will start at 11:35am.
