Trade Deadline Deals Bring Shaw and Jackson to Dubuque

DUBUQUE, IA-Late Monday night, the Dubuque Fighting Saints made a pair of blockbuster deals to bolster their lineup for the push to the Clark Cup Playoffs. The Fighting Saints announced today the acquisitions of forward Robby Jackson from the Chicago Steel, and defenseman Hayden Shaw from the Waterloo Black Hawks.

"This time of year is tough, and it was very difficult to trade two players out of our locker room," said Dubuque Fighting Saints Head Coach and General Manager Matt Shaw. "Both were great teammates and very good hockey players. We've made these moves as we look to improve our team. Regardless of either player's last name being brought in, we have identified these two as guys who bring a history of success offensively in their time in the USHL. Both were members of the USHL All-Rookie Team last season and Robby Jackson was the USHL Rookie of the Year. We're excited to welcome them to our locker room."

In return for Jackson, Dubuque traded forward J.D. Dudek, a 1st round selection in Phase 2 of the 2015 USHL Draft to Chicago, along with an affiliate list player to be named later.

In the deal for Shaw, the Fighting Saints sent defenseman Blake Hillman, an affiliate list player to be named later, a 4th round selection in Phase 2 of the 2016 USHL Draft and future considerations to Waterloo.

With the addition of Hayden Shaw, the son of Fighting Saints Head Coach and General Manager Matt Shaw, it's become a family affair for the Fighting Saints. The North Dakota commit brings offense to Dubuque's blue line. Despite missing time due to an injury, Shaw is tied for fourth in the league in scoring among defenseman, posting 2 goals and 27 assists for 29 points in only 32 games. Waterloo, who is currently in 7th Place in the Western Conference with a 19-22-6 record, posted a 17-11-4 record with Shaw in the lineup, but were 2-11-2 without Shaw. The Woodbury, MN native has registered 8 points in his last 5 games and was recently honored as the USHL's Defenseman of the Week.

The 5-foot-10, 191 pound defender helped Team USA to a gold medal at the 2014 Junior A Challenge in Kindersley, Saskatchewan this past December. In his rookie season in the USHL in 2013-2014, Shaw earned USHL All-Rookie Team honors, scoring 8 goals and 21 assists for 29 points in 53 games. He also added 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points in 12 playoff games, helping lead Waterloo to the Clark Cup Final.

Jackson, a St. Cloud State commit, adds a key piece to Dubuque's offense. The Aladmeda, CA native is the USHL's reigning Rookie of the Year, posting 28 goals and 14 assists for 42 points during the 2013-2014 season as only a 16 year old. His 28 goals were the most in USHL history for a rookie at that age. He was also a member of the 2013-2014 USHL All-Rookie Team. Despite battling injuries this year, Jackson has posted 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points in only 29 games with the Steel this season.

The 5-foot-10, 183-pound forward is eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft and skated in the 2014 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game in Buffalo last September. He also has international experience, helping Team USA to a bronze medal at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, posting 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points in 5 games. He was also selected to play at the 2014 Jr. A Challenge and in the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, but missed both events due to injury.

Both Shaw and Jackson are expected to make their Fighting Saints debuts on Friday when Dubuque hosts Green Bay at 7:35 p.m. Jackson will then face his former club when Dubuque plays a home-and-home with the Chicago Steel, skating at the Edge Ice Arena in Chicago on Saturday night, and then returning home for a 3:05 p.m. puck drop Sunday in Dubuque.
