Capitols Acquire Panthers' Draft Pick Fidler, Send Vanko to Youngstown

Madison, WI- The Madison Capitols announced a pair of roster moves on Tuesday. First, Madison acquired Miguel Fidler (Edina, Minn.) from the Lincoln Stars in exchange for Sean MacTavish. In addition, Madison also sent defenseman Alec Vanko to the Youngstown Phantoms.
"As a veteran player in the league, we are grateful for all of Alec's contributions to the Madison Capitols, both as a person and a player," said Capitols Head Coach & General Manager Luke Strand. "We wish him well with the remainder of the season and his career at Minnesota State."
MacTavish played eight games for Madison after being acquired from Waterloo.
"Sean is a great young man with a strong pedigree for the game," said Strand. "We thank him for his contributions in Madison and wish him well with the remainder of the season in Lincoln and his career at Boston University."
Fidler, a high school teammate of Capitols defenseman Tyler Nanne, was drafted one pick after Nanne by the Florida Panthers in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The pair teamed up to win back-to-back Minnesota high school state championships in 2013 & 2014.
Strand and the Capitols will also gain a pair of new bodies from the high school ranks for the season's stretch run.
"With the trade deadline passing, we feel we have added quality and depth to our existing team by acquiring Miguel Fidler from Lincoln while also gaining the utilization of Tony Stillwell, a University of Wisconsin commit on defense, and Eric Shaw, a Brown University commit at forward," said Strand. "We are excited for the upcoming stretch of games to gain the final position in the Eastern division race."
Fidler is committed to playing his college hockey at Ohio State, joining Nanne, Freddy Gerard (Rocky River, Ohio) & Sam McCormick (De Pere, Wis.) as Buckeye commits on the Capitols roster.
The Capitols will hit the ice for three straight games beginning Friday night in Cedar Rapids against the RoughRiders. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. and coverage can be heard on 106.7 FM, 1670 AM, The Zone in Madison or at www.madcitysportszone.com.
Madison then returns home to take on the Bloomington Thunder for the second half of a home-and-home series on Sunday, March 8 at the Alliant Energy Center. Face off is set for 3 p.m. from the Coliseum.
