Trenton Thunder News Release
TRENTON, NJ -- Thunder starting pitcher Matt Tracy (3-2) did not allow a base hit until there was one out in the 6th, and by then the Thunder were already winning 5-0 in their 5-0 victory over the Binghamton Mets Monday night.
Tracy set the season-high mark for innings pitched and strikeouts by a starter with his 9 K over 6.1 innings. He allowed just one hit and walked three batters. Aaron Dott and Branden Pinder came out of the bullpen to throw 2.2 innings of one-hit relief to protect the 5-0 lead.
The shutout victory was the second of the season for the Thunder, the other coming April 13th against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The game also marks the second consecutive night in which the Thunder held their opponent to just two hits.
Offensively, Trenton jumped out to a quick first-inning lead with four runs. Three of the runs in the inning were unearned due to an error by Binghamton third-baseman Josh Rodriguez, but it was a two-run two-out single by Reegie Corona that capitalized on the opportunity to turn a 2-0 lead into a much more comfortable 4-0 game.
The Thunder square-off against the Binghamton Mets for the second time this season in Game 2 of a three-game series Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. The game features RHP Jose Ramirez (0-0, 0.00) making his second start for Trenton against Rafael Montero (3-2, 3.41) for the Mets. Limited tickets are available through the Thunder box office at (609) 394-3300 or online atwww.trentonthunder.com/tickets. Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 6:45 p.m.
