SeaWolves Win Sixth Straight

The first place SeaWolves fell behind early on Monday night at Canal Park but came from behind, taking down the Akron Aeros 7-4 for the club's sixth straight win.

The Aeros struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Victor Larez. Bo Greenwell led off with a single and with one out, Chun Chen homered to make it 2-0 Aeros.

Akron added to its lead in the fourth when Quincy Latimore led off and belted a solo home run to left, his fourth, for a 3-0 lead.

The SeaWolves got on the board with two outs in the fifth against Aeros starter Will Roberts. Jamie Johnson singled up the middle and was tripled home by Luis Castillo making it 3-1.

The SeaWolves took the lead in the sixth. Hernan Perez doubled and Daniel Fields singled putting runners on the corners. Tyler Collins singled home Perez to cut the Akron lead down to a run. James McCann lifted a sacrifice fly to center, plating Fields, tying the game at 3-3. With two outs, Wade Gaynor blasted a two-run home run, his third, over the wall in left for a 5-3 lead.

In the top of the ninth, the SeaWolves added to their lead. With one out, Eugenio Suarez connected on a solo home run to left making it a 6-3 game. With two outs, Fields and Collins both walked extending the inning for McCann. McCann singled home Fields making it 7-3 Erie.

Justin Souza tossed the ninth innings and allowed a run before slamming the door on the Erie win.

Larez (5-0) won his fifth straight game allowing three runs on seven hits with no walks and a season-high six strikeouts in five innings of work.

Will Startup tossed three scoreless innings in relief of Larez to bridge the gap to Souza.

Erie is now seven games above .500 for the first time since May 19, 2010.

The SeaWolves and Aeros play the second game of a three-game series on Tuesday night at Canal Park. LHP Kyle Lobstein (3-2, 2.89 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Danny Salazar (2-3, 2.83 ERA).
