Tracy, 'Riders Get Revenge

September 2, 2009 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release

The RoughRiders defeated the Hooks, 1-0, on a Chad Tracy walk-off home run in the 11th inning

In perhaps the most exciting 1-0 game in Frisco history, the RoughRiders defeated the Hooks 1-0 on Wednesday to move within two games of first place Midland. Tracy played hero twice in the low-scoring affair as Frisco pitching held the Hooks to just three hits over 11 innings.

With the game knotted at zero in the bottom of the ninth, Chad Tracy hit what appeared to be a game-winning two-run home run down the left field line. However, after calling it a fair ball and a home run, the umpires conferred and decided it was a foul ball, taking the runs off the scoreboard and sending the game into extra innings. The overturn also sent Frisco Manager Mike Micucci to the clubhouse as he was ejected from the game. In the 11th frame, Tracy came to the plate and sent the first-pitch offering over the left-center wall, a definite no-doubter, to send the crowd home happy (again).

Frisco were hitless through five innings and had only two hits through the first eight frames, both by Guilder Rodriguez. Engel Beltre recorded his first Double-A hit with an extra-inning double. Tracy's home run gives him a league-best 26 on the season as he extends his single season franchise-best RBI total to 106. The Hooks managed just three singles on the night as Collin DeLome and Jhon Florentino combined for eight strikeouts.

Frisco starter Michael Kirkman allowed just two hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings, striking out six, but didn't factor into the decision. Zach Phillips and Beau Vaughan combined to throw four scoreless innings of relief as Vaughan (3-0) earned the win. Corpus' starter Fernando Abad allowed just one hit over six innings as Ryan McKeller (2-4) gave up the Tracy home run to take the loss.

The RoughRiders, now 2.0 games back of Midland in the standings, will face the Hooks in game three of the series on Thursday at Dr Pepper Ballpark with first pitch at 7 p.m.
