Tourists Vacate Greenville with 11-3 Victory

Greenville, SC - The Tourists (15-7) ability to hit the long ball continued Friday, belting four round-trippers - three coming in the first inning - as Asheville beat the Drive 11-3 in the rubber game of the three-game series.

Asheville's offense came out swinging once again, as Everth Cabrera and Michael Mitchell began the game with back-to-back solo homers off Jose Alvarez (0-3). Jeffrey Cunningham capped the tumultuous inning with a three-run shot.

Alvarez's struggles continued into the second as Darin Holcomb plated two more with an RBI-double. Just 2.0 innings, and 63 pitches into the game, the Tourists chased the young left-hander from the game.

The Drive (12-10) were able to get to Asheville's Jhoulys Chacin (3-1) early, scoring twice in the bottom of the first, but from there the right-hander cooled off the Drive bats. Ryan Kalish singled in Che-Hsuan Lin, who doubled to start the inning, and later scored when Mike Jones reached on an error.

With a leadoff double in the fourth, Jones extended his league-high hitting streak to 16 games, surpassing Tony Granadillo's 15-game hit streak from the 2006 season. Two batters later Oscar Tejeda drove in Jones with a one-out single.

Chad Povich proved to be the Drive's most on point pitcher in the ballgame, allowing just two hits and a run while fanning five in 4 innings of work. The Tourists were able to plate runs on all four pitchers that the Drive used as Joseph Guerra allowed a run over 2 innings and Felix Ventura gave up two more in his one inning of work.

The Drive will look to rebound as they begin a three-game series with the Hickory Crawdads tomorrow at Fluor Field with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. During Saturday and Sunday's games, Reggy The Purple Party Dude will be in attendance to entertain fans of all ages.

In tomorrow's match-up, right-hander Ryan Colvin will toe the rubber for the Drive as the Crawdads counter with right-hander Zac Oliver.
