Augusta Shutout in Hickory

Hickory, NC - The GreenJackets (11-11) finished their short three game road trip with a 9-0 loss to the Hickory Crawdads (11-11) on Friday night. Starter T. J. Brewer suffered the loss and Thomas Neal extended his hit streak to 14 games with a double in the fourth inning as Augusta dropped its third series of the season.

Hickory chased Brewer from the game in the second inning after taking a 7-0 lead. Already leading 3-0 at the start of the frame, Miles Durham led off with a base hit and then scored when Erik Huber followed with a double. Tom Hagen then reached first on a fielding error from catcher Matt Klimas and that was all for Brewer.

Brewer (1-2) worked two innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on seven hits while not walking a batter and striking out two.

Hickory made it 5-0 when Huber scored after Keanon Simon reached on a fielder's choice then Ronald Pena had an RBI double and Bobby Spain connected for an RBI sac-fly for a 7-0 lead.

Spain added an RBI double in the fifth inning and a solo home run in the eighth inning to give Hickory a 9-0 lead. Spain was a triple away from the cycle and finished with four RBIs.

The Crawdads took a 3-0 lead in the second inning after the first three batters reached base to load the bases up. Pena drove in the first run with an RBI single for a 1-0 Crawdads lead. The second run scored when Danny Bomback hit into a double-play and then Spain followed with an RBI single to put Hickory up 3-0.

The GreenJackets begin a short three game home stand Saturday night with the Asheville Tourists. Augusta will send lefty Craig Clark (1-0, 4.15) to the hill while Asheville will counter with right-hander Corey Riordan (3-1, 2.10). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

Neal has hit safely in 14 straight games, the most games this season for Augusta

Augusta had its streak of homer in consecutive games end at five after not collecting a home run Friday night.

Augusta had a season high four errors in the game and now have an error in 18 straight games.

Augusta was shutout for the third time this season.
