Asheville Tourists News Release

The Asheville Tourists will host the local Pitch, Hit and Run competition for kids age 7-14 at McCormick Field on Saturday, May 10, at 1 p.m. Boys and girls will compete together in four different age groups, including 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14.

The event consists of three different activities. The pitching competition involves throwing six baseballs toward a strike zone 45 feet away, with points being accumulated with each accurate toss. The hitting aspect is centered on receiving three swings to hit baseballs off an adjustable batting tee, with points being awarded for both distance and accuracy. The running phase will consist of players being timed while running from second base to home plate.

Winners in each age group will include an all-around champion as well as a runner-up and third-place finisher. Recognition will also be bestowed upon the pitching, hitting and running champions. The all-around, pitching, hitting and running champions will advance to the Pitch, Hit and Run sectionals. The contest includes team championships and national finals, the last of which will be hosted during the All-Star Game Festivities at Yankee Stadium in July.

There is no cost to participate in the competition. Players will need a valid birth certificate for proof of age.
