Charleston RiverDogs News Release

Cristhian Adames hit a two-run triple and four Asheville Tourist pitchers held the Charleston to three hits as the RiverDogs fell, 3-1, Saturday night in front of 4,011 fans at Riley Park.

Charleston starting pitcher Manny Barreda (4-3) took the loss for the RiverDogs (27-41 second half, 53-85 overall). Barreda gave up five hits in four innings as the Tourists (38-30, 69-66) scored all three of their runs in the third inning.

Avery Barnes, who was 2-for-4, led off the inning with a single to left field, and Brett Tano drew a one-out walk. Adames then launched a fly ball to right-center field that bounced off the wall just out of the reach of Charleston centerfielder Daniel Lopez. Both runners scored on the play, and Adames used his speed to get to third.

Former Clemson star Kyle Parker added to the scoring with an RBI-single to right field.

The RiverDogs mounted a comeback in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of Asheville starting pitcher Peter Tago, who walked three and hit Jeff Farnham with a pitch. Mike Ferraro scored Charleston's only run when Ramon Flores drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs. However, the RiverDogs were unable to add to their total after Kevin Mahoney flied out to left field to end the inning.

All of Charleston's hits came against Tago, who was helped by double plays in the first and second innings.

Relief pitcher Juan Gonzalez (3-8) took over during the fourth inning and retired 11 straight RiverDogs to lower his ERA from 8.47 to 7.90 in just 3-2/3 innings of work.

Kraig Sitton pitched a hitless eighth, and Bruce Kern threw a perfect ninth to record his 10th save of the year.

Charleston reliever Mike Recchia took over for Barreda in the fifth and allowed only one hit with no walks in the final five innings, lowering his ERA from 2.61 to 2.33.
