KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Sept. 3, 2011) -- The Greensboro Grasshoppers used a pair of home runs to edge the Kannapolis Intimidators, 3-1 in seven innings, on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Greensboro's Kyle Winters (8-3) earned the win, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts before turning the ball over to Michael Brady for two scoreless relief innings and the save (18).
Catcher Kevin Dubler put the Intimidators on the board with solo home run (3) in the bottom of the third. Christian Yelich (14) and Jacob Realmuto (12) responded with solo home runs of their own to give the Grasshoppers a 2-1 lead through four innings.
Greensboro added a run in the fifth inning when Ryan Fisher scored from third base on a passed ball.
Intimidators starter Brad Furnish (0-2) worked 5.1 innings in a losing effort, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with a strikeout. Terance Marin tossed 1.2 innings in relief, allowing one walk while striking out three.

The Grasshoppers increased their lead in the Northern Division overall standings over the Intimidators to 1.5 games, giving Greensboro the inside track to a playoff berth if 1st Half winner Hickory also wins the 2nd Half.
