ASHEVILLE - The Lexington Legends jumped on the Asheville Tourists from the start and held off a furious comeback attempt to hand Asheville a 7-5 loss on Monday night. The Legends scored six of their seven runs in the top of the first inning.

Only two of the six runs were earned. Asheville had a chance to record a big out on a pop fly in foul territory down the right field line. Seuly Matias was given extra life when the ball dropped and he ended up being hit by a pitch. A costly two-run error followed and before the Tourists picked up a bat they trailed 6-0.

Asheville scored their first run in the bottom of the second on a Lexington throwing error. Matt McLaughlin then blasted a two-run Home Run to left in the fourth to bring the Tourists within three. Ryan Vilade doubled and scored on a past ball in the fifth to make it 6-4.

The Legends added one in the top of the sixth; however, the Tourists had plenty of chances late. Asheville loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh and did not score. Then in the eighth, the Tourists put runners at second and third with no outs; again, they did not score.

Chad Spanberger connected with an RBI double in the ninth and Ramon Marcelino came to the plate representing the winning run. Unfortunately, Marcelino struck out and the Legends clinched the win.

Asheville finished the game 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position and failed on all five of their opportunities to plate a runner from third base with less than two outs. Vilade finished 3-for-5 to notch his seventh multi-hit game in his last nine contests.

Lucas Gilbreath suffered the loss despite pitching six innings and allowing three earned runs. Gilbreath has allowed three earned runs or less in ten of his last 11 starts.
