Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive fell behind early on Monday night and couldn't catch up, as the Hickory Crawdads came away with a 6-1 victory in the series opener at Fluor Field.
A pair of two-run innings in the third and fourth gave the Crawdads (18-12, 48-50) all the cushion they would need. Tyreque Reed grounded a two-run double into the left field corner off Hildemaro Requena (3-3) in the third, and Tyler Ratliff belted a two-run homer to left center in the fourth.
A solo homer by Reed leading off the fifth extended the lead to 5-0.
The Drive (17-13, 42-57) scratched across their only run in the bottom half of the fifth as Everlouis Lozada singled with one out, moved to second on a ground out and came in on a single by Kervin Suarez.
Tyler Phillips (8-5) allowed just that one run over six innings of work to earn the win for Hickory.
The Crawdads plated a run in the top of the ninth when Pedro Gonzalez tripled to left-center and scored on a double by Yohel Pozo.
Garrett Benge was the lone Drive starter with two hits in the game.
Durin O'Linger threw two and two-third scoreless relief innings with five strikeouts.
Game two of the four-game series begins at 7:05 PM on Tuesday at Fluor Field. The Drive will send right-hander Denyi Reyes (9-3, 1.79) to the mound against Crawdads right-hander Noah Bremer (3-3, 4.56).
