Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Charleston, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 2-1 against the Charleston RiverDogs on Monday night.

The game was closely contested throughout as both pitchers were dominate early. The GreenJackets would take an early 1-0 lead after a solo home run by Shane Matheny in the top of the third inning. This was the fifth home run for Matheny on the season. 1-0 would stay the score until the eighth inning when Matheny would strike again. His sacrifice fly would score Orlando Garcia from third base to give the GreenJackets a 2-0 lead. Matheny would be responsible for the only two GreenJackets runs in the game.

On the mound, Jose Marte overpowered the RiverDogs lineup. He pitched six shutout innings, only allowing two hits. He also struck out seven RiverDogs on his way to his seventh win of the season.

The RiverDogs would put up one run in the bottom of the eighth inning, which made for an intense finish. With no-outs and runners on first and second base, Jeffrey Parra would pick off Chris Hess at second base to get the first out of the bottom of the ninth. This swung the momentum in favor of the GreenJackets, as Camilo Doval got his sixth save of the season.

The GreenJackets (13-18) took game one of the series in Charleston and will be back in action tomorrow at 7:05 pm.

After the eight game road trip, the GreenJackets will be back at SRP Park for seven game homestand! Promotions include Boy Scout night, Military Appreciation Night, and National Wing Day Festival! Get your tickets now!
