Asheville Tourists News Release

On Friday night, the Tourists put together a huge sixth inning en route to an 11-1 win over the Braves. With the victory the Tourists are now in first place all by themselves.

Asheville received a strong pitching performance from Daniel Winkler (6-2, 4.81). The T's starter went seven innings, struck out seven, and surrendered only one run on four hits. Winkler has won his last four starts.

The Tourists took a 3-0 lead by sending eight men to the plate in the second. Asheville received RBI singles from Rosell Herrera and Delta Cleary Jr. Taylor Featherston added a sacrifice fly.

Herrera delivered again in the fourth with an RBI single; scoring Featherston from second. Rome picked up a solo Home Run from William Beckwith in their half of the fourth.

With the game at 4-1, Asheville came to the plate in the top of the sixth. The T's wasted little time loading the bases with no outs. Jared Simon drew a walk that forced in a run, and then Herrera picked up his third single of the game, driving in two more. Delta Cleary Jr. was next and he doubled in a run. Two batters later, Sam Mende hammered a three-run Home Run to left-center; capping off the seven-run frame.

Nelson Gonzalez pitched the final two innings for Asheville and kept the Braves from scoring. David Filak (2-4, 3.42) took the loss for Rome. Filak was roughed up for ten hits and nine earned runs. Filak had not allowed more than two runs in any of his previous nine starts.

The Tourists and the Braves are back in action Saturday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm.
