Asheville Tourists News Release

The first place Asheville Tourists extended their lead in the South Atlantic League's Southern division with a 12-2 win Saturday night. The T's plated 11 runs in the first three innings and never looked back en route to their second straight double-digit victory.

Asheville loaded the bases in the first inning with no outs and Harold Riggins plated the first run with a single to left. The Tourists rallied for two more and took a 3-0 lead into the second inning. Ryan Casteel led off the second with a double and Rosell Herrera tripled home Casteel. Delta Cleary Jr. came through with an RBI single and Asheville led 5-0 after two.

In the third, the Tourists put a huge rally together that led to six more runs. Brian Humphries and Casteel each connected with RBI singles and Herrera followed with an RBI double to put the visitors up 8-0. Two batters later, Trevor Story came to the plate with the bases loaded. Story lined a double into left and cleared the bases; putting Asheville ahead 11-0 in the third inning.

Ben Alsup (6-1, 4.66) dealt four perfect innings before allowing a lead-off double to Will Skinner in the fifth. Alsup pitched around the Skinner double, but he did allow a run to score in the sixth. Kyle Kubitza led off Rome's seventh with a solo Home Run, but the Tourists were still comfortably in front 11-2.

Asheville tacked on another in the eighth and Russell Brewer held the Braves scoreless in the final two frames. Alsup finished with an impressive line; seven innings pitched, two runs allowed on three hits, and five strikeouts without issuing a walk.

The Tourists are now 8-3 against Rome this year and have won 10 of their last 11 games overall.
