Daytona Tortugas News Release
Clearwater, FL - The Daytona Tortugas were held hitless until the sixth inning of their 4-2 loss against the Clearwater Thresher Wednesday afternoon at Bright House Field. The first 13 Tortugas were set down in order, as Daytona managed just five hits in their sixth consecutive road loss.
Daytona had to play from behind early once again, much like Tuesday night. Clearwater plated a pair of runs in the first inning on a Cord Sandberg double and an error by Jonathan Reynoso in centerfield, allowing Scott Kingery to score the game's first run. Kyle Martin followed with an RBI base hit to right to make it a quick 2-0 deficit.
The Threshers tacked on runs in both the third and fourth on RBI singles from Mitch Walding and Sandberg to make it 4-0, while Daytona was still looking for their first baserunner.
Daytona didn't get a man on until the fifth inning, when Avain Rachal worked a one-out walk. The first hit didn't come until the following inning, when Blake Butler led off with a double to left field. Daytona squandered the frame, however, stranding Butler and Blake Trahan, who walked, on base at the end of the inning.
Rachal provided the only Tortuga offense in the ninth with his third home run of the season, making it 4-2.
Daytona's starter RHP Wyatt Strahan (0-1) lasted six plus innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and suffering the loss. LHP Matt Imhof (1-1) dominated the Tortugas lineup for six innings, allowing just three baserunners and no runs for the victory.
The Tortugas look to salvage the series with a win Thursday night. Daytona will send RHP Tejay Antone (1-0, 2.70 ERA) to the mound, while Clearwater will counter with RHP Ranfi Casimiro (2-0, 2.70 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM with the Chili's pregame show starting at 6:45 PM on AM 1230 & AM 1490 WSBB.
Notes: Daytona has been outscored 22-9 during their current six-game road losing streak...In the first two games of the series, the Tortugas have more strikeouts (18) than runs and hits combined (11)...Clearwater has allowed four total runs in their last six wins...Daytona will look to avoid their second sweep of the season with a win tomorrow.
