Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
TAMPA, FL - In the highest scoring game of the season, the Dunedin Blue Jays (7-6) hit three home runs, but fell short against the Tampa Yankees (8-5) 12-7 in their series opener on Tuesday night. 2B Christian Lopes launched his second leadoff home run of the season, while 1B Ryan McBroom and LF Jonathan Davis each connected with solos of their own.
A pair of four run innings for Tampa gave them the lead on two separate occasions. Down 3-0 in the second, An RF Austin Aune RBI-double preceded a CF Michael O'Neill three-run shot to left. Trailing 7-6 in the sixth, the Yankees tagged LHP Alonzo Gonzalez (L, 0-1) with three runs, including a two-out two-RBI-double by 1B Billy Fleming off of RHP Chris Rowley.
With Dunedin behind by a run to start the third, the two teams traded scoring a pair in the inning. Along with the McBroom home run, 3B Emilio Guerrero tripled and scored on C Danny Jansen's single. Guerrero collected three hits and is now 9-for-14 with four extra base hits in three games to start his season.
The Yankees regained the lead in the bottom of the third with a two-out single by C Santiago Nessy that plated two.
RHP Jordan Foley (W, 1-0) earned the win in relief by tossing 1.2 scoreless innings. LHP Ryan Borucki allowed six runs on six hits over his three inning start. SS Richard Urena left the game in the bottom of the fourth after what appeared to be an ankle injury backhanding a ball at shortstop. Urena stayed in the game for another batter but left immediately after.
The two teams are back on Wednesday night for game two in Tampa at 7 pm. LHP Juliandry Higuera gets the ball for the Blue Jays while RHP Gabriel Encinas starts for Tampa.
