Austin Spurs News Release
AUSTIN, TX January 13, 2010 The Toros announced earlier today in a joint press conference that they are partnering with the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, HEB, Randalls Food Markets, and numerous media outlets for the 2010 Souper Bowl of Caring. The Souper Bowl of Caring is a nationwide movement centered around Super Bowl weekend to mobilize youth to fight hunger and poverty in their communities. Participating sponsors hope to create the largest food drive in the history of Texas. The goal is to raise 750,000 meals for Central Texans in need.
Central Texas Schools are encouraged to support this effort by sponsoring a school wide food drive between January 13th and February 7th, Super Bowl Sunday. The public or private school that collects the most food and/or funds is eligible for tickets to a Toros game, and other great prizes. Patrons of HEB and Randalls Food Markets that purchase a pre-packaged bag of food or make a monetary donation can take advantage of a Toros buy one ticket, get one free offer for January home games. Schools participating should register their food drive at austinfoodbank. org/souperbowl.
"The Austin Toros are proud to support the Souper Bowl of Caring initiative and recognize that giving to people in need is one of life's greatest gifts," said Toros COO Peter Lubell. "We encourage everyone to stop by H-E-B and Randall's to donate food and keep your receipts to come out to an upcoming Austin Toros game."
