
T-Birds Defeat Vipers To Win Sixth Straight

MCALLEN, TEXAS, Jan. 13, 2010 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds knocked off the Western Conference leading Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Wednesday night, 109-100, to push the team's winning streak to six games. Kurt Looby shined in his first game back at Dodge Arena since being traded, scoring 10 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.
Albuquerque took its first lead at 11-10 and never looked back. The team led 49-40 at halftime, and pushed the lead to as many as 22 in the third quarter.
Rio Grande Valley went on a 21-3 run during the fourth quarter to cut the lead to eight with 5:25 to play, but the Thunderbirds' bounced back with five quick points to retake control of the game. The Vipers were able to once again cut the lead to single digits down the stretch, and Albuquerque ultimately held on for the nine point victory.
Carlos Powell led a balanced Thunderbirds attack with 21 points. Kevin Pittsnogle added 20, while Antoine Agudio (16) and Yaroslav Korolev (11) also scored in double figures for Albuquerque.
Keith McLeod returned from injury after missing the last seven games, scoring 14 points and dishing out 6 assists.
Mike Harris led the way for Rio Grande Valley with 27 points. Antonio Anderson and Will Conroy added 20 apiece for the Vipers.
The Thunderbirds winning streak is the longest current streak in the NBA Development League. The team's record now stands at 9-9.
The T-Birds win marks the first home loss of the season for Rio Grande Valley. Albuquerque is now 2-2 on the season against the Vipers, and will look to improve on that record tomorrow.
